08-30-10. Another Basket, Another Last Minute Effort. Thoughts from the day... After Camille's soccer practice, we stopped at the McDonald' on North Glenstone. About halfway through our meal, an older gentleman (mid 70s) walked in, and I couldn't keep my eyes off of him. He looked familiar, but at the same time looked like no one I had ever seen. He had big, puffy, white hair. Not gray, not silver- bright white. It kind of reminded me of Gene Simmons' current hair style, only poofier, and of course whiter. Chin length on the sides and puffed up about 6 inches above the top of his head. To go along with his white hair, he wore some cool rock-star sunglasses. Oversized white frames; one single reddish tinted lens that stretched across both eyes; but tapered across the nose. He wore them indoors too, just like a rock-star. He wore a turquoise western shirt with pearl snaps, well-worn jeans, and boots that he’s probably had for 25 years or longer. I noticed the conversion van he was driving matched his turquoise shirt. He had just come in for an ice cream cone. He ended up sitting in the booth adjacent to ours, so I was facing him. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of him. Neither could James. James caught his attention, and the old man started a conversation with “you have beautiful kids.” We chatted a bit, while James continued to smile, wave, and keep his attention. He mentioned that seeing a young happy couple with kids reminded him of his own family years ago. After finishing his ice cream cone, he headed for the door and told me “you are a very rich man” on his way out. I agreed, told him thanks, and wished him a nice evening. I wish I could have taken his picture. He just looked so cool sitting there eating his ice cream cone. I’m also curious about his story. He was quite a character.
