This is the next room in the basement on the list to get finished. This will be our dedicated theater room. I've had the sheetrock ready for paint since July, but I haven't had the time or money to move any further. After hooking up the speakers and also testing out a borrowed projector on the 100" screen, I was a little more motivated to get this done. We've actually already watched a few movies in the bare room.

As you can see from the previous photo, I started on this project yesterday afternoon. It took a little convincing to get Kate to agree on such dark colors, but I reminded her that this room is a theater and theaters need to be dark for optimal projector performance. After testing a projector in a white room, the amount of light bouncing around off the walls and ceiling made it pretty bright in the room. After convincing her of the need for a dark space, we both picked the same colors from a few similar choices.

The flash messed with the color a little bit here, and I also mistakenly had the camera set to ISO 1600 so it turned out a little grainy. I thought about retaking the picture, but I was too lazy (or too tired after spending the last 2 days painting.) The walls are just a neutral brownish color, and the ceiling is a really deep brown. The flash makes it look a bit orange here, but it is pretty dark without it.

This was actually a fairly tough room to paint. The dark colors didn't cover the bright white primer too well, so I had to use 2 coats on the walls, ceiling, doors, and trim. Oh yeah, painting 3 doors was time consuming as well since it involved removing the hinges and hardware. Cutting in the edge along the ceiling and walls took twice as long as normal since the soffit essentially doubled the perimeter.

I worked until midnight last night. Camille has been sick the past few days, so I spent part of yesterday and today helping take care of her. I figured that I could get more work done while she was sleeping, so I stayed up late until I reached a stopping point.

I finished painting this afternoon, but it took me a few more hours to clean up and rehang the doors. Now we just need carpet (and furniture...and a projector...and......) Oh yeah, the light fixtures that you see here are just temporary fixtures. I also need to build a shelf of some sort for the equipment cubby that you see on the very left side of the photo.
