Miles Boyer > 07-17-06. Still no baby, just a baby snail shell. I collected a handful of these from around our compost pile. I'm fascinated by the perfect spirals that nature produces. After seeing the tiny shell compared to the large shells, I also wonder how long it takes for the snail to produce a "full grown" shell. Something to research when I have more time I suppose.
Miles Boyer > 07-16-06. I can't even think of a caption worthy of what I feel when I see this picture. Without getting too sappy, I feel like I could just look at this photo for hours and hours. I had to practically beg Kate to let me post this for the photo of the day, but I thought everyone else should be able to see how lovely she is. We took a few last pictures today before Camille arrives. Kate is due on July 18th, but she is definitely ready to be a mother and not just a pregnant lady. We'll keep everyone posted when something happens. Be ready for lots of baby pictures.
Miles Boyer > 07-15-06. Little bitty mushrooms. I spotted these this morning while I was out working in the yard. By the time I took a picture of them this evening, they had nearly doubled in size and quantity. I'm amazed that anything could grow that fast. These are about 1 inch tall, and both my camera and myself were laying flat on the ground to take this picture.
Miles Boyer > 07-14-06. Another "digging through the kitchen cabinets" shot. Can you guess what it is.
Miles Boyer > 07-13-06. Sometimes you feel like a nut. And sometimes you can't find anything else to take a picture of, so you dig through the kitchen cabinets until you find something.
Miles Boyer > 07-12-06. Self Portrait. Yes, I actually took this picture myself. And yes, the motorcycle was moving. I've been thinking about this picture for a few weeks now, but this is the first chance I've had to try it. I had my tripod strapped down tight to the back seat. The legs were folded in, and it was just laying horizontally and extending about 2 feet out from the edge of the motorcycle. I attached my camera, and as a backup, I wrapped the camera strap solidly around a rack on my motorcycle. I used my remote shutter release to trigger the shutter. I tried several of these as I cruised around on back roads. Quite a few of my attempts were extremely blurry due to the vibration of the motorcycle and the not too solid tripod rig. I had several pictures with really awesome sky and scenery, but they were too blurry. I may have to try this again with a more solid tripod rig and better sky and scenery. As I was riding around the backrouds, I actually came across another motorcycle rider. I had stopped to adjust my camera, and he stopped to make sure I wasn't broken down. He saw my setup on the back of my bike, and he couldn't believe I would hang "a few hundred dollars" in camera gear off the back of my bike. I grinned and told him that my camera cost "slightly" more than a few hundred dollars. Then he thought I was really crazy. We chatted a few more minutes about our bikes and then headed our separate ways. Besides taking crazy pictures while riding, I had a really nice and long ride this evening. The weather was perfect, and I was treated to a nice sunset on the ride home. I had to stop and take some pictures of it too, but I thought this was a more appropriate photo of the day. I may post a sunset picture later in the recent favorites gallery. Now I better clean the bugs off the front of my lens.
Miles Boyer > 07-11-06. My new brain. I've held out as long as I could. Me being the gadget guy that I am, I'm suprised at how long I've managed my life without a PDA (that's a Personal Digital Assistant for the non-computer geeks). I've been researching these for the past few weeks and finally settled on this fine piece of electronic wizardry. This will help me keep track of meetings, appointments, emails, phone numbers, addresses, birthdays (Happy Birthday Ellen), and all that other stuff that I've been keeping on piles of sticky notes and chicken scratches on my desktop calendar. Oh, I can also watch videos, view photos, play music, and surf the internet. If I really get bored, I could even play solitaire on it. Heck, I haven't even had a chance to fully explore everthing that I can do yet. You can't really tell the scale of this device, so for those of you who might not be so familiar with these things, it fits quite comfortably in the palm of my hand. Kate will probably have to pry it out of my hands from time to time. Speaking of which, I learned a new term this week- "Mouse Potato". Similar to "couch potato", this is a person who spends too much time on a computer. If I didn't qualify before, I'm sure this new device will guarantee a picture of me next to the definition in the dictionary. Yes this term is now in Webster's Dictionary, and it is also available on one of my t-shirts: http://www.cafepress.com/boyersmile.65028223 Since I spent the evening fiddling with this gizmo, I thought it would be appropriate to take a picture of it. This actually turned out to be somewhat of a challenge to balance the light from the display and the light from my flash. I think it actually turned out to be a 4 second exposure to get the display to show up bright enough.
Miles Boyer > 07-10-06. Raindrops. Just for fun, I changed the colors in Photoshop just a little bit. Actually, it is still fairly monochromatic, but the drops have just a hint of strange metallic color to them. The original colors were just a bit too boring for me. Heck, I'm just glad it finally rained. We've been pretty crispy around here for the past several weeks (months).
Miles Boyer > 07-09-06. Red Light Special. Just a red light bulb. The only thing I took a picture of today.
Miles Boyer > 07-08-06. Dog Print in Dried Mud. Saw this on my walk around the neighborhood this evening. I thought it was more interesting than all the flowers I came across. Kate and I were going to see the "Pirates of the Caribbean" this evening. We pulled up to the theater and couldn't believe how busy it was. Not only was every parking space in the lot full, people were parked in the grass alongside the road and in adjacent parking lots. There was a huge line that stretched halfway around the building too. We weren't in any mood to fight the crowd, so we turned around and headed home. What a mess. That is why we usually don't see movies on opening weekend, and we usually go to a matinee rather than evening shows. Lesson learned.
Miles Boyer > 07-07-06. Tiger Lily. I thought everyone might get tired of another bug shot. I took another picture with an ant on the tiger lily, but I decided on this one instead. I guess I was more interested in the shapes, colors, and composition rather than having everything in focus. In fact, I don't think I would like this as much if everything was in focus.

Miles Boyer > 07-05-06. Help! I've fallen, and I can't get up. No junebugs were injured in the making of this photo. In fact, I helped this little fellow get back on its feet and fly away.
Miles Boyer > 07-04-06. Boyer kids at the 4th of July family gathering. The annual 4th of July gathering at Glen and Terre's house is growing with more and more kids each year. We'll be adding another for next year. I had a hard time choosing a potd for today. There were too many cute pictures of the individual kids, but I opted to not play favorites this time. I'll post more pictures later in the Family section.
Miles Boyer > 07-03-06. Downtown Parking Garage and Alley. I had the day off work today, so I spent the morning relaxing on the deck, sipping coffee and reading a book. I spent the next few hours helping Kate's parents unload their U-Haul. They are officially moved to Springfield now. After unloading the truck, I took a short nap. Then I decided to get out and walk around downtown. I didn't see too much worth photographing today. It was extremely hot, and I worked up quite a sweat just walking around. Shortly after taking this picture, I headed home. We spent the rest of the evening at home cooking out with some of Kate's family. A good time was had by all. All in all, I had a fairly productive day. I'm tired now. I think I'll go to bed.
