Miles Boyer > 08-31-06. Another grasshopper.

Grasshoppers are actually pretty cool up close. I find the colors, textures, and anatomy intriguing.
Miles Boyer > 08-30-06. Ladybug.

This is 2 pictures combined into one. Yes, the ladybug was alive for both pictures. In fact, it was crawling when I took both pictures. Any idea how I got a picture of its underside while it was crawling???

It was crawling on our window. I took one picture of its backside, then took the other picture of its underside from the other side of the window. Fortunately, the window was clean enough that it didn't show in the picture. Since the flash was the main lightsource, the background behind the glass didn't get exposed by the flash. Hence the black background.

Anyway, just thought I would share how the picture was taken. It wasn't really planned. It was just a spur of the moment picture when I spotted the ladybug on our window.
Miles Boyer > 08-29-06. Guess what it is.

Here is a hint. Mom will know what it is because she made it. This is straight from the camera, so the colors and texture are true to life.
Miles Boyer > 08-28-06. I've been meaning to take a picture of a grashopper for a few weeks now. It seems like everytime I'm without my camera, I see grasshoppers everywhere. When I have my camera, I can't find one for the life of me. Finally tonight, I found this one on our front porch. She was temporarily tangled in a spider web here, which kept her still long enough for me to get a few close-ups.
Miles Boyer > 08-27-06. I shot a 50th wedding anniversary party this afternoon. This is the original cake-topper from their wedding cake 50 years ago. I can't believe that it was in such good shape, not mention the fact that they actually kept it all these years.
Miles Boyer > 08-26-06. You sank my battleship!

Another gathering at Noel & Myria's. We used Chris' birthday as an excuse to get together. Ellen brought the Battleship game to keep the girls entertained, and they were definitely captivated by the game. More pictures will be posted in the Family section later.
Miles Boyer > 08-25-06. Legos.

I guess I was in the mood for some color tonight.
Miles Boyer > 08-24-06. Take 2 of these and call me in the morning.

I've got a headache, so I'm going to bed. This is the only picture I took today, so I guess it will have to do.
Miles Boyer > 08-23-06. Camouflaged.

When I first spotted this creature, I didn't have my camera with me. I ran back inside to grab my camera, but when I came back out, I couldn't find this moth for the life of me. I searched the same 1 square foot of the tree over and over again, but I couldn't find it. If I were a predator, I would have missed a good meal. After nearly giving up, I finally spotted it again. I think it is incredible how well this moth blends in with the tree bark.
Miles Boyer > 08-22-06. Photo shoot with Mary & Lily. The bubbles were a hit. This photo was definitely lucky. I took quite a few pictures just like it, but either their hands were covering their faces, or one or both of them were turned away from the camera. I think I was pretty lucky to catch the action while still showing their faces. Even the bubbles seemed to line up well. I really thought I was going to keep this in color, but I sure am a sucker for black & white.
Miles Boyer > 08-21-06. 3 Cats.

The only picture I took today. Not an award winner, but better than nothing. It has been a while since I've posted a cat picture anyway.

The grey cat outside belongs to the Mannings, our neighbors and in-laws. He's been scoping out our back yard recently. The past few days, he'll sit on the deck and have a staring contest with our cats. Abby (the calico) is usually more territorial, and she hisses at him. Oliver (the tabby) seems more interested in...well, I'm not sure what Oliver is ever thinking- if he does think. I thought it would be cute to get a picture of our 2 cats gazing out at the stranger, but I think I like this better. The fact that Oliver seems totally oblivious to the other cat pretty much sums up his personality.
Miles Boyer > 08-20-06. Boyer Family Portrait.

I've been meaning to take a picture of all three of us, and I finally got around to it today. I've taken plenty of self portraits before, so I thought I had plenty of practice. Unfortunately, I didn't realize how difficult it was going to be with a baby included in the picture. It was so hard for Kate and I to look at the camera rather than looking at Camille. Add in the fact that I was triggering the shutter with my toe. Yes, I said my toe. I had my remote on the floor and pressed the button with my big toe. We took lots of pictures in order to get a couple decent ones. Camille was looking away or fussing in most of the pictures. She had been an angel all morning until we started taking pictures. Then she got a little cranky, so we had to hurry. I think we were pretty lucky to get a picture of her looking at the camera considering the fact that she can't really see the camera, and we couldn't see her to see if she was looking at the camera. This isn't the best posing, composition, or lighting, but it is the first good picture of the three of us together.
Miles Boyer > 08-19-06. I couldn't resist another shot of Camille's tiny hands. I can definitely tell they are bigger than the last picture I took. I thought I would include my ring for a better sense of scale.
Miles Boyer > 08-18-06. Moonflower seedpod with a colorful background.

The house around the corner from us has a flowerbed that is always bursting with color. Quite a few of my potd flowers have been in this yard.

I passed by tonight and noticed something I had never seen before. I thought it would make for an interesting photo with the bright flowers in the background. Unfortunately, the seedpod was strongly backlit, so I new it was going to need a little extra light up front. I used my flash pointed directly at it, but I didn't like the harsh shadows the direct flash causes. I didn't have anything else to diffuse the flash, so I bounced the flash off of my white shirt. This made for nice soft light and balanced out the strong backlighting. I'll definitely have to remember this option in the future.

I would normally have no idea what this is, but the homeowner came out and chatted with me for a little bit. He even told me the story about how he started the plant from seeds he picked up while hiking in New Mexico.
Miles Boyer > 08-07-06. First Bath.

As you can see, Camille didn't mind her first bath. In fact, I think she liked it. She did have a suprised look on her face when she first touched the water, but then she relaxed and enjoyed herself.

The rubby ducky actually serves a purpose (besides covering her privates.) The bottom of the duck has a temperature sensor on it to let you know if the water is too hot. Handy, huh?

How do you like that big, round belly. I brought home our package scale from work yesterday, and she weighed close to 9 pounds. She definitely knows how to eat. Her belly button has healed quite well, and I think it is pretty darn cute.
