Miles Boyer > 11-14-06. No Car Payments.

I officially paid off my truck last week, and I received the title in the mail today. Now we no longer have a car payment. We'll see how long that lasts. The bank was quick to also send a letter saying I'm pre-approved for another car loan. I think it is some kind of conspiracy to make sure that you always have a car payment.

Anyway, this is about all I felt like taking a picture of today, and I thought it was worthy of a photo.
Miles Boyer > 11-13-06. Something bright that caught my eye in the laundry room. Probably an easy "guess what this is" photo for some, especially with the clue.
Miles Boyer > 11-12-06. Happy 60th Anniversary Popo & Grandma.

We had a big family gathering at Nancy and Paul's house today. Good food. Good company. Good times.

I took several pictures of them cutting their cake and feeding it to each other, but I liked this one the best.
Miles Boyer > 11-11-06. Noel, the tree climber, working on Nancy and Paul's trees. We spent most of the day doing tree work at Nancy and Paul's new house. I had to take a break from the work and take a few pictures of Noel in action. He is pretty fascinating to watch when he is climbing trees. (this is the part where I brag on my older brother) Noel is the 5-time Midwest Tree Climbing Champion. (yes, they have competitions for climbing trees) If anyone in the Springfield, MO area needs a good tree service, let me know.

Miles Boyer > 11-09-06. Woody has been a little shy in front of the camera, but I think he is starting to come out of his shell.

This was a last minute idea. I was walking around the house looking for a subject. I saw Woody, then the shell. This is what I ended up with.
Miles Boyer > 11-08-06. Ashley.

I had another family photo session tonight. I took several group photos of 5 grandchildren, and I took individual shots as well. Ashley was a natural poser, so I ended up with several good shots of her. I had a hard time choosing though. All the kids were very photogenic.

Miles Boyer > 11-06-06. I passed over these RR Tracks on my lunch break yesterday, and I noticed the colorful leaves surrounding the tracks. I stopped to see if there was a good photo possibility. I was standing on the bridge trying to figure out a good angle, but the gray sky was working against me. I decided it wasn't going to be that great of a photo, so I didn't even bother taking a picture. Then I heard the rumble of the train coming. I thought the train might add some interest, so I waited until it came around the corner. I took a few pictures as it neared. Just as the train passed under me, the engineer blasted the horn a couple times. I know that they normally don't blow the horn at that point. (this bridge is just around the corner from my office) He was just being ornery, and he was successful in making me jump. Anyway, I do like the way the engine matches the leaves. I still didn't like the dull gray sky, so I cropped as much out as possible.
Miles Boyer > 11-05-06. What a smile.

We finally got around to taking a few more pictures of Camille today. I had the studio set up for a family portrait session for some friends, so I figured we may as well take some pictures of Camille while we had it all set up. We tried several outfits and several poses, but she seemed to be the happiest propped up on her "Boppy". I couldn't decide on which one to post as the potd, so I randomly chose one. This one isn't the best smile or the best pose, but I still think it is cute. Of course I am a bit biased.
Miles Boyer > 11-04-06. Water drops on the shower curtain. I'm standing in the shower looking through the clear curtain liner. My flash is on the other side of the curtain. This is just one of those things I notice while I'm taking a shower in the morning. I finally decided to take a picture of it.
Miles Boyer > 11-03-06. Old Tow Truck.

I pass by this scene when I drive down Kearney Street to and from work. I've been meaning to stop and take a picture of this old truck and run down garage. I finally decided to stop on my way home from work tonight. Unfortunately, there is a utility pole that was right in the way of composing the shot. So, I had to settle for a different composition that ended up skewing the perspective that I wanted. I was able to correct this in Photoshop to get the desired effect. Using the perspective controls in Photoshop is almost as good as having a tilt-shift lens.
Miles Boyer > 11-02-06. Driving home after a late meeting.

The annual Salute to Design and Construction Awards Banquet was held tonight. This annual event recognizes students and professionals in the design and construction industry. I was the coordinator for the event this year. I certainly won't take credit for organizing the event by myself. In fact, I give most of the credit to all the other people who serve on the Salute Council. As the coordinator, I did have to make a few opening statements and introductions during the banquet. I also made a few scholarship presentations to local students. (funny how just 7 years ago, I received a scholarship at this banquet) I was in charge of the photo contest, so I also presented the prizes to our contest winners. We had a pretty lousy turnout for the photo contest this year, but we did receive a few good construction related photos.

We had a sold out crowd of more than 350 people. I'll admit that I'm not the best public speaker, especially in front of such a large crowd. I will say that I don't get as nervous as I used to, but I'm glad the whole event is over with.

I took a few pictures during the banquet, but I didn't think they were worthy of the potd. So, I took a few "light doodle" pictures on my drive home.
Miles Boyer > 11-01-06. New Assorted Flavor Bananas.

This started off as a last minute effort late (for me) last night. (I'm posting this a day late.) I had been grocery shopping after work and picked up these bananas. All the bananas at the store were very under-ripe and very green.

With no other photo subject in mind, I decided to take a picture of the green bananas. My camera didn't quite capture the color correctly, and I was feeling too lazy to manually set the white balance to get the color right. So I ended up with a pretty boring picture of some bananas. I didn't feel like posting it last night, so I waited until today. I opened it up in Photoshop without any ideas of what I might do with such a boring picture. Suddenly, the idea struck me to make each banana a different color. I spent a few minutes "painting" each banana, and this is what I ended up with. I got a bit sloppy with my painting, but I'll call it good enough. I may try this another time with a better starting picture.

You should try the blue banana.... Quite an interesting flavor.
Miles Boyer > 10-31-06. Trick or Treat.

I didn't have much time to take this picture because Camille was not a big fan of her costume. As soon as we put it on, she threw a fit. I think she didn't like the hat. We got her settled down enough to take a few pictures. I think she makes a pretty cute lady bug. The back side of this costume is actually pretty cute too, but it would have been hard to get a picture of the her back and her face at the same time.
