Miles Boyer > 08-20-08. Any Party.

For the past few days, I've seen these ants congregating in various spots on our driveway. They'll be on one side of the driveway in the morning, and they'll be on the other side later in the day. From a distance, it just looks like a pile of black dirt in the middle of the driveway. I guess they are feeding on something, but I haven't noticed anything obvious.

Miles Boyer > 08-18-08. Blue Dream.

This is just a quick pic of the evening sky. I set the camera's white balance to flourescent just for fun, which shifted the colors to a deeper blue. For such a quick and simple picture, I think it turned out alright. Thanks mother nature.
Miles Boyer > 08-17-08. Velvet Ant, a.k.a. Cow Killer Ant.

This is actually a type of wasp. This "ant" was a little more than an inch long. This isn't the best photo, but she was moving so fast, I had a hard time focusing on her.

Kate did a little reading on this bug while I was taking a picture of it. She warned me not to handle it because it can give a terrible sting. Apparently the sting hurts bad enough that it could kill a cow. More info on this bug can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velvet_ant
Miles Boyer > 08-16-08. Jayden, Camille, and Carson posing for an impromptu portrait.

Jayden and Carson are the next door neighbors. They all happened to be sitting on the bench, and they stayed there long enough for me to grab my camera and take a few quick pictures.
Miles Boyer > 08-15-08. Camille's rain boots. Too bad it hasn't rained for the last 2 months.
Miles Boyer > 08-14-08. Missouri Mud.

I spent the evening working in the dirt in the back yard. Dean came over with his tractor to push the dirt around, while I moved some big rocks into place. I thought we had enough dirt to finish the rough grading, but it is going to take about 8 more loads. Then we'll be ready for topsoil, seed, and straw.

Between my next door neighbor and I, we've had more than 200 large dump-truck loads of dirt brought into our backyards. Now our drop-off-the-side-of-a-hill backyards are starting to resemble something that is actually usable. Surprisingly, I don't have any pictures of the various stages of dirt-work from the past 7 months. Maybe I'll take a time-lapse of the grass growing here in a couple of weeks.
Miles Boyer > 08-13-08. Happy Birthday Lily.

This wasn't my favorite photo of the evening, but I felt obligated to post a picture of Lily. I just realized that last year's photo of Lily's birthday featured a similar adult hand blocking another kid's effort to blow out the candles. http://www.milesboyer.com/gallery/355422_LM8qw#183703871_HABjE

I'll try to post more photos from the party when I get a chance.
Miles Boyer > 08-12-08. Check Engine.

Nothing too special about this photo. I was just waiting for the train to pass by, so I grabbed the camera and took a quick picture. I didn't take any other pictures today, so this will have to do. Time to get out the black electrical tape and cover up that light. :)
Miles Boyer > 08-11-08. I didn't put much 'energy' into this photo.
Miles Boyer > 08-10-08. Another last minute effort. Another one of Camille's toys.
Miles Boyer > 08-09-08. I believe I've done this before, but I'll make it a 'guess what this is'.
Miles Boyer > 08-08-08. Popcorn.
Miles Boyer > 08-07-08. Toothbrush Close-up.
Miles Boyer > 08-06-08. Viewmaster Slides. Camille's birthday present from Auntie Ellen.
